We’re now officially at the halfway point of the season with Liverpool cruising to their first league title since the 80’s, Leicester and Man City lagging behind in 2nd and 3rd respectively, Arsenal and United in 8th and 11th respectively and Sheffield higher than them both.
Due to the fixture congestion (and my head congestion) I’m going to keep this one short again, only including my picks and a brief explanation.
This Season: 106-94-41 (+11.4 Units)
Boxing Day: 2-2 (-0.2 Units)
Here are all the fixtures for the weekend:
Let’s see what I decided to pick…
English Premier League
Saturday, December 27th
7:30 am EST
Bournemouth @ Brighton (TV: NBCSN) – Bournemouth may have had a few decent results recently, most notably their win at Chelsea two weeks ago, but they’re still too inconsistent to get back to back results. Meanwhile Brighton have stayed consistent. They’ve only lost to a team below them in the table once this season and they have gained ten points out of a possible twelve in their last four matches against teams in the bottom half of the table. I like Brighton at home. Brighton -0.5 (-125).
10:00 am EST
Everton @ Newcastle – Newcastle only have one loss at home this season so far while Everton only have one win away from home. Yes, Carlo Ancelotti is surely going to help turn things around and it’s even looked brighter the last few matches for Everton as they’ve gone their last four league matches without a loss. But Newcastle have been better for a longer stretch and I can’t fade them here as underdogs at home. Newcastle United +0.5 (-130).
Crystal Palace @ Southampton – Both teams are in good form but in different ways. Palace have only one loss in their last six while Southampton have won their last two, most notably at Chelsea on Boxing Day. But Southampton remain the worst team in the league at home and outside of their outlier win at Chelsea, their last win against a team ahead of them in the table came in September at Sheffield. In fact, they are yet to beat a team ahead of them in the table at home this season. I’ll gladly take the points and Crystal Palace. Crystal Palace +0.5 (-115).
Tottenham @ Norwich (TV: NBCSN) – This one is pretty easy. I refuse to pick Norwich unless they’re at least two-goal underdogs and although Spurs have been shaky and are a bit hurt going into this one, they’re miles ahead of Norwich. The Canaries also rank tied last in the home table only ahead due to goal differential. Tottenham -0.5 (-135).
Leicester City @ West Ham – Leicester just lost their first league match since October against Man City and then a few days later they got their doors blown off by Liverpool. Obviously the bookmakers have devalued them a little bit but I’m here to tell you that that’s a mistake. This is a perfect spot for them to bounce back and show that they deserve to be in the top four this season. Also, West Ham stink and are one of the worst teams in the league at home this season. Leicester City -0.5 (-105).

9:00 am EST
Chelsea @ Arsenal (TV: NBCSN) – This one is tough since neither have been a good team to pick and their form has been pretty mediocre recently, especially Arsenal. I wanted to lean Chelsea but their recent results against worse clubs have me hesitant and Arsenal have only one win in their last fourteen matches in all competitions. I think this London derby will be tight though and since I don’t an edge for either team, I’m going to take a shot at a draw which has really good odds. DRAW (+265).
